I have been out of touch with the illustration world these past couple of months, being busy with the day job, family, and the holidays, but I'm back in the illustrator's chair and ready for a busy year!
I was going to pull together highlight thumbnails from my 2012 art as well as some stats, but i've been too preoccupied to do that. Instead, I'm going to move into 2013 full steam ahead, with lots of art and activities on the horizon. It is shaping up to be a very busy year, as I try to actively market myself in various illustration markets via artist alleys, conventions, and portfolio critiques! Here is an extremely tentative list conventions, which I will officially confirm once I have registered for each event:
- May 11 - Long Beach Comic Expo - artist alley
- August/September - SCBWI Summer conference (dates not yet specified) - portfolio review and critique!! (if I make none of the other events this year, I'm going to THIS conference)
- November 1-3 - ConVolution - Artist alley/gallery space
- November 9-10 - DesignerCon - possible booth
Everyone has told me for a while that I am ready to make the leap towards professional illustration in the children's market, but it took the year of 2012 to FEEL that I was ready to enter the market. Who knows what I will find when I venture out there, but if my (slightly biased) coworkers are to be believed, then I can only expect good things.
On another note, I'll be making some changes to my website over the coming months, since i'm still not completely happy with the gallery options I currently have set up. I will do my best to not mess up this blog in the process, but apologies in advance if I do. Now, to art!
